Purpose built as the main Stadium and centrepiece for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ANZ Stadium was the jewel in the crown of the most successful summer Olympics ever held. Today, the Stadium stands as an icon of the new millennium and an enduring symbol of Sydney’s coming of age as a global city.
Originally built to host more than 110,000 spectators, a reconfiguration of the Stadium in 2003 reduced capacity to 83,500 but also gave the Stadium the ability to host five professional sporting codes – Rugby League, Rugby Union, Football, AFL and Cricket.
In the 18 years since its official opening in 1999, ANZ Stadium has set a series of record international and Australian attendances. More than 25 million fans have walked through the turnstiles and shared in the passion, excitement and drama of some of Australia’s greatest events and most iconic sporting moments.
ANZ Stadium has also been Sydney’s first-choice venue for some of the world’s biggest entertainment acts such as AC/DC, Adele, The Rolling Stones, U2, Justin Bieber, Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift and Eminem.
